History Of KETTI

Keroka Technical Training Institute was founded in the year 1991 as a resource center offering short term courses to resource persons under the Ministry of Labour. In 2008, it was elevated to a Technical Training Institute (T.T.I) in the Ministry of Education Science and Technology offering more long term and module courses.

Since then, the curriculum has expanded to seven (09) academic departments training at artisan, craft and diploma levels. Technical Education (TE) activities have been recognized in the institution since its inception as vital to social and economic development.

The first buildings put up were resource workshop and hostels. Currently the institution has a a three storey library building, tuition block of three storeys, electrical and automotive engineering workshops, plumbing workshop, carpentry workshop, food and beverage workshop and fashion and design workshop. In addition to that we have computer laboratories for various departments including ICT department.

Mandate and Functions

Mandate

The institute has outlined its mandate as provided for by the TVET Act, TVET strategy and reforms as follows:

i. Offer skill training under TVET to trainees.

ii) Prepare and guide trainees, for evaluation and certification by appropriate examining bodies.

iii) To promote science, technology and innovation in all training programmes.

iv) The specific mandate of the Institute as provided for by the TVET Act, TVET Strategy and reforms are;

Offering Technical training, prepare and guide trainees for evaluation and certification by appropriate examining bodies as well as promoting Research, Science, Technology and Innovation in all its training programmes.

Core Functions

The core functions of the Institution include;

i) Implementation of TVET curriculum and approved programmes.

ii) Supervision, monitoring and evaluation of programmes.

iii) Strengthen linkages between the institution and industry.

iv) Diversification of income generating activities and optimization of available resources.

v) Formulation, reviewing and co-ordination of institutional policies.
